Our voyage commenced from Cabo San Lucas to the Marquesas Islands on 1 May, 2008. The previous six weeks me and my crew, Kathy Perkins, had slaved away prepping the boat with lots of last-minute additions and provisions. The day before departure Delilah Hart came by seeking a crew position and was welcomed aboard. Having three aboard greatly increased the ease of passage-making, allowing plenty of sleep and having plenty of hands to help with setting sail. We used our pole and our spinnaker when we could.

On this trip of 2950 logged miles, we saw only 3 boats. I am told that is a lot. We saw the green flash at sunset, phosphorescent dolphins at night, and welcomed a new day every dawn. It went by much faster than I ever expected. This is supposed to be the very best sailing trip in the world -- lots of peaceful days and nights at sea.

On arrival in Hiva Oa we were able to check in to French Polynesia ourselves without any problems. See the Checking In To French Polynesia page for how we did it.
